Designing Interaction,
Driving Safety

During my time at Volvo Group I worked as part of a global and highly collaborative usability team supporting both Volvo and Mack Trucks in shaping hardware and software experiences for professional drivers. My role blended field research, interaction design, and human-factors evaluation always grounded in real driver needs and close collaboration with designers, engineers, and product teams.

UNDERSTANDING REAL DRIVERS
A core part of my role was understanding real drivers and real-world use by planning and running user clinics across labs, on-road studies, and driving simulators designing questionnaires, leading eye-tracking, and contributing to qualitative and quantitative analysis. My team and I turned these insights into clear opportunities and presented them to global stakeholders in Sweden, Lyon, and other usability sites. I also worked cross-functionally to align research methods, share learnings, define requirements, and maintain regional consistency without losing brand distinction.

DESIGNING FOR GLOBAL MARKETS
Designing for Volvo and Mack required a strong understanding of regional needs and constraints. My work also required designing for diverse markets. Supporting both Volvo and Mack meant understanding how different regions such as the Australian market, where Mack has a strong presence bring unique regulations, driver expectations, and legal guidelines. This informed how we evaluated hardware, interaction patterns, and in-cab digital features to ensure compliance, usability, and brand coherence globally.

HANDS-ON UX
Much of my contribution came through detailed, hands-on UX evaluation and design iteration. My contributions spanned hands-on UX craft: expert reviews of force-feedback controls, lighting and dimming behavior, physical usability, auditory cues, and in-cab digital interactions. I collaborated closely with UI designers on A/B tests, interface evaluations, and rapid prototyping cycles, supporting feature development across diesel/ICE, electric, and autonomous platforms.

CROSS COMPANY COLLABORATION
Beyond research and interaction design, I contributed to broader strategic and collaborative efforts. I also contributed to competitive and market research, facilitated hardware review sessions with broader cross-company groups, and supported efforts to maintain strong brand distinction between Volvo and Mack. Throughout my work, my focus was on enabling better design decisions grounding direction in evidence, teamwork, and a deep understanding of drivers across different markets.
Being the project lead, while guiding the strategy I applied the same approach to elevating the app experience, grounding every design decision in real driver needs across global regions. By conducting testing in diverse markets and aligning solutions with local regulations and expectations, I led the evaluation of features, interaction patterns, and platform behaviors to ensure the Volvo and Mack truck apps stayed usable, compliant, and aligned with each brand’s identity worldwide.
